There are so many skateparks in the world that it is hard to keep up on all of them. Please sends us your Skatepark Pictures or any other information on your local skatepark.

And now a little background on skateparks. The first skateparks were primarily private, for-profit endeavors, although several public parks were built globally. Parks then included pools, bowls, snake runs, freestyle areas, banked slalom areas, half-pipes, and full pipes. Most were concrete and were outdoors. In more extreme climates parks were built indoors, often of wood.

The modern public skatepark is relatively new, made possible by legislation such as California's 1998 law stating that skateboarding is an inherently "Hazardous Recreational Activity" (HRA), and therefore municipalities and their employees may not be held liable for claims of negligence resulting in skateboarders' injuries. Parks are usually for persons 14 or over.

The Tony Hawk Foundation is at the forefront of helping cities to get skateparks built. The Tony Hawk Foundation seeks to foster lasting improvements in society, with an emphasis on supporting and empowering youth. Through special events, grants, and technical assistance, the Foundation supports recreational programs with a focus on the creation of public skateboard parks in low-income communities. The Foundation favors programs that clearly demonstrate that funds received will produce tangible, ongoing, positive results.

The concrete skate facility take ups only 20,000 square feet, but offers a strong mixture of straightaways, ramps and rails for those interested in practicing their outlandish tricks. midnight office - So much excitement when this place opened. It's all but forgotten now that Wilson has been built. The tight trannys are well documented as well as the wear and tear over the years. There is cool stuff here but for someone who is strictly street, the lines are bad. To grind up the hubba you have to make a 90 degree turn after getting up to speed. Not worth the effort.

visioncity - Yes, the seams are bad. You must use an old school deck with some nice bouncy 64's or get a bike.

Like anything if you work at it long enough you'll figure it out.

skate4flip - this place fucking sucked ass. how could u say it was a good park. the shit was so busted up you couldnt skate. it was fucking horrible!

grindtolipslide - I agree with all of the other comments posted here as of 04-06-06. The manual pad area is great. They were off to a great start then it went to s***. The coping sticks out too far or not far enough or there is no coping! Not one section is acceptable. Why can't a park be built that contains the best elements of Chicago's public plazas? How difficult would that be? Instead we end up with this mess. At least its not crowded!

ianoid - Oh my god I can't believe I skated there so much 5 years ago. It truly is one of the worst parks around. There are some interesting things to do with tight trannys, weird combos and freaky hips, but basically don't go out of your way. The years have exacerbated the concrete seam issue, which stop you in your tracks. The surface feels incredibly slow. The pool is kind of messed up. Any single element in this park would make a 10 minute street session if it were in a random location. Together, it results in a messed up park that could leave you regretting that you didn't go up Lakeshore Drive 7 miles to Wilson.

b rad - Some of the curves are messed up a bit but its worth gowing to

surfincjk - Compared to Wilson this place is horrible and the bowls aren't even worth checking out...if you like stairs there are some gnarly stars/columns to clear....bottom line, if you're in the city, go to wilson!!
