There are so many skateparks in the world that it is hard to keep up on all of them. Please sends us your Skatepark Pictures or any other information on your local skatepark.

And now a little background on skateparks. The first skateparks were primarily private, for-profit endeavors, although several public parks were built globally. Parks then included pools, bowls, snake runs, freestyle areas, banked slalom areas, half-pipes, and full pipes. Most were concrete and were outdoors. In more extreme climates parks were built indoors, often of wood.

The modern public skatepark is relatively new, made possible by legislation such as California's 1998 law stating that skateboarding is an inherently "Hazardous Recreational Activity" (HRA), and therefore municipalities and their employees may not be held liable for claims of negligence resulting in skateboarders' injuries. Parks are usually for persons 14 or over.

The Tony Hawk Foundation is at the forefront of helping cities to get skateparks built. The Tony Hawk Foundation seeks to foster lasting improvements in society, with an emphasis on supporting and empowering youth. Through special events, grants, and technical assistance, the Foundation supports recreational programs with a focus on the creation of public skateboard parks in low-income communities. The Foundation favors programs that clearly demonstrate that funds received will produce tangible, ongoing, positive results.

Skate Park Overview

Park Description

Lansdowne was built in the 1977-78. It is a relic from the skateboard revolution of the late 70's early 80's. Abandoned in 1980-81 by Baltimore County it laid vacant to people from all over the world who wanted to wander in and take a trip back in time!

It consists of snake runs, mellow flowing banks, a freestyle area with concrete moguls and a mellow bowl.

A new street area has been added with Skatewave vert ramps, fun boxes and grid boxes.

The entire park has been fenced in and no bikes are allowed!

You will need to sign a waiver and people under 18 will need a parent to sign the waiver or the waiver can be taken home signed by the parent, noterized and returned.
They will NOT allow anyone to skate without full pads, a helmet and a signed waiver!

The park hours are:
12:00 to 8:00pm
7 days a week

There is an attendant, and although these are the formal hours; there have been times that the gates have been closed before 3:00pm.
I have been told this has been taken care of but I thought it worth mentioning.

The Grand Re-opening is scheduled for September 18th and it looks to be a huge skating event!

Hope to see you there!

There is a link to the waiver form which must be filled out and noterized if you are under 18 and not comming with a parent.
Yeah it is a little more relaxed pad wise but every once in a while it does become an issue so make sure you have them if you are comming.
It did kind of kill the stoke putting a fence around the place but it still is a fun place to skate so it is definitely a stop you wanna make if in Maryland! peace all, i_r_taz

metalldzppln - everything is so much smoother now its sweet

airflow - I can't beleive this place is still here. I took my first Airflow Dragon Board here is '85 and almost broke it in half. Back then we screwed plastic slide rails on the bottom to glide easier on the concrete parking slabs. There was a guy covered with tatts(which back then it wasn't the norm) who could come down the snake run and jump 6 boards stacked and interlocked truck to truck. Some of my best memories are of that place. Used to be open and deserted, NO RULES! The rules and fences seem out of place.

pyroskaterx3 - the bowl is awsome also the addtions on the bowl are sweet. THE old skool skaters come around 2 00 man they shred the bowl. the street section is preety good. the mini ramp is kinda small. also its made out of metal . BUT STILL THIS IS AN AWSOME PARK AND ITS FREE!!!!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

metalldzppln - new street course is nice. needs a bigger miniramp then 2 feet. awesome snake runs.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

cowtown - 100% pad useage has slacked, helmets are still mandatory. There have been 2 contests held recently. There are 7 concrete parks within 3 hours of Landsdowne.Stop by for maxi speed & numerous new lines.Balto. Cty. even cleans the place, on a semi-regular basis.Sundays are pretty good sessions, recently there wereabout 40 longboarders raging. If you crave the need for speed-come to Landsdowne.

latrel - Shrednok is right, but this is still worth a visit to skate one of the oldest parks still operating. Plus the new 'crete they added has made for all sorts of new lines an possiblities. Lansdowne will always be one of my favorites. Go to Royal Farms for potatoe wedges after, Holla - B-more!
