There are so many skateparks in the world that it is hard to keep up on all of them. Please sends us your Skatepark Pictures or any other information on your local skatepark.

And now a little background on skateparks. The first skateparks were primarily private, for-profit endeavors, although several public parks were built globally. Parks then included pools, bowls, snake runs, freestyle areas, banked slalom areas, half-pipes, and full pipes. Most were concrete and were outdoors. In more extreme climates parks were built indoors, often of wood.

The modern public skatepark is relatively new, made possible by legislation such as California's 1998 law stating that skateboarding is an inherently "Hazardous Recreational Activity" (HRA), and therefore municipalities and their employees may not be held liable for claims of negligence resulting in skateboarders' injuries. Parks are usually for persons 14 or over.

The Tony Hawk Foundation is at the forefront of helping cities to get skateparks built. The Tony Hawk Foundation seeks to foster lasting improvements in society, with an emphasis on supporting and empowering youth. Through special events, grants, and technical assistance, the Foundation supports recreational programs with a focus on the creation of public skateboard parks in low-income communities. The Foundation favors programs that clearly demonstrate that funds received will produce tangible, ongoing, positive results.

midnight office - I agree that this park is not flawless but a big improvement over 31st. Great for launching and some other good lines. Hard to get up speed for the rail or the manual box. And if you wipe out like I do, the wrought iron fences will take years off the life of your deck. Great bowl, and I also agree that most of the terrain is set up for a more advanced sk8er. It can get real crowded, and even when it's not, some mom will drop off kids on scooters.

grindtolipslide - It has lights! My only biased opinion of this skatepark is that I can see it from my balcony window and get there in about a minute. I love that it is close, but the layout was poorly planned. The bowls were poured well. I am happy to not be riding a truride product! The metal rail and table are in an akward place. The cops will kick you out after 10. The coping at this park grind/slides well. Not too bad. Hey- it has lights!

zachmcgee - cool skatepark!!!

ianoid - Oh, does Chicago need more concrete parks. Wilson is esteemed heavily by the locals, but I just can't come to admit that it's all that. There are alot of lines, although it could use a few trannys on either end of the street area to make or retain speed. It's got a good variety of terrain, including a large 6' bowl area with islands and corners, and a full vert deep bowl with shallow end. The steet area is fun, although it is slopey and it has design flaws. I've seen other concrete parks do more with less space, street area wise.

Definitely worth checking out, although imperfect. It's located just east of Lakeshore drive. There is a snack shop with drinks.

Not a great place for noobs, to answer a previous question. Try numerous suburban truride ramp parks if you're just starting out.
